Haydom Lutheran Hospital
 
HLH is situated in the south west corner of the Mbulu District. It therefore bounders on other districts like Hanang, Iramba, Singida Rural and Meatu districts. In practice the hospital serves 5 districts, though 3 of these districts have district hospitals of their own. With the limited Government health budget, , and the subsequent shortage of drugs and equipment, Haydom has received many patients who could not be treated in these government hospitals.
 
Haydom Lutheran Hospital (HLH) was first built by the Norwegian Lutheran Mission in 1953 at the request of the then existing government authorities with a capacity of 50 beds. It is about 80 km. south -west of district headquarters and about 300 km. from Arusha which is the main town and regional centre. (See map) Government wanted to develop the area ,cleared for tze tze asked mission to build.
 
Mvumi Hospital
 
Mvumi Hospital is a church hospital situated in the village of Mvumi Mission in Central Tanzania and is run under the auspices of the Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika. The hospital provides health care for the population of Dodoma Rural District where the average life expectancy is only 46 years and over 25% of children die before the age of five. This is one of the poorest regions in the world with an estimated "income" per capita of less than 100 $ U.S. (1991/1992) which includes the market value of all economic activities such as food production, brewing, honey collecting, cattle rearing and wood gathering (Holtland, 1994). Mvumi Hospital is the only hospital in Dodoma Rural District and caters to the needs of over 400,000 people.  Mvumi Mission has a population of about 10,000 people and is situated 42 km south east of Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania. This web site is designed to provide news of the work being carried out at the hospital and in the surrounding countryside for those who have worked in Mvumi, and also to provide an insight into the life of the people in one of the poorest parts of the world for those who are interested and, hopefully, for those who are not.

 
Selian Lutheran Hosptital
 
Selian Lutheran Hospital is a semi-urban hospital of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania - Diocese in Arusha Region (ELCT-DAR). It is located near the village of Ngaramtoni within the Arumeru District of the Arusha Region. The health work of the hospital was begun in the 1950's and has grown from a dispensary with a single building and ten beds into a 120 bed, full-service hospital offering outpatient and inpatient services including medicine, pediatric, general and specialty surgical, obstetric, maternal and child health, hospice and orphan care.
 
Selian Lutheran Hospital serves an immediate catchment area consisting mainly of a government ward with a population of approximately 200,000 people. The hospital and its clinic, the Arusha Town Clinic, also serve as the main referral resources for the entire urban area of Arusha, a catchment area of over a million people.
