We arrived
in Kenya end of February. Big dreams big plans. We were
going to built an orphanage. A so called 'friend' promised
to help to do fundraising. When they raised the money,
enough to built the orphanage they changed their mind and
refused to give us the money. They used our photo's, the
project and story to get the money so we were cheated. When
the deal was made there were no rules or regulations.. all
what was said is ' we raise the money then sent it to your
account and you go ahead..." so we left the Netherlands to
Kenya to make my dream come true.. It was not easy to leave
behind family and friends, schools and a regular life but to
built an orphanage was my life time dream..............
Once we were in Kenya we got a list of rules and strict
regulations which we were not able to accept cause we could
risk loosing everything one day. We love our children and
have made the promise to take care about them the rest of my
life. The issue ended up in a disagreement leading to the end
of the cooperation. It was very hard for me to deal with the
disappointment but thanks to some lovely people my dream
will still come to a good end...
We have
been seeing a beautiful plot in Kikambala exactly there were
I dreamed of. It is a 2 and half acre plot not far from the
beach and in a African environment, no crowds, no sex
tourism like in Mtwapa, no busy roads. We are right now in
the progress to obtain that plot. This plot will be big
enough to built the orphanage, the clinic and school... We
got a donation from two ex volunteers from The Netherlands
of 12500 euro which enable us now to buy the plot and start
with the construction. We want to thank Tessa van de Poel
and Danielle Hassing for their efforts and great help! And all
the sponsors who donated.
We have
welcomed many English visitors who brought us wonderful
gifts and clothes for the children's home. With all these
gifts we will be able to create such a cozy and beautiful
home in Kikambala and also decorate the school. We want to
built our own school so that we can educate our children in
a school where beatings, caning and other cruel punishments
will not be allowed. It is a struggle to go to the school so
often to demand the teachers over and over again not to cane
or beat our children. It is a endless battle with fake
promises. We want to teach our children to respect adults
and be respected by adults to communicate with people and
express their feelings. They should not fear the teachers
but respect them. We want to create a school with child
friendly decoration where they feel being loved and
comfortable. We want to thank all our English visitors who
have supported us with spiritual words, with encouragement,
and or financial support.
We want to
thank Dean Lewis, Ronny Welch and Paul Priest for their efforts during a sponsored Golf
Charity day
whereby they raised 822 GBP. This will be used for needed
items in the home and education. We want to thank Janet and
Brian Jones for raising 900 GBP to buy sewing machines to
start a workshop where we will design and sell weddings
dresses and party dresses for our clients willing to get
married in Kenya whereby S'Harity Safaris our Kenyan travel
agency will organize the wedding. We want to thank Mark and
Nicky for developing a website to get continuous support for
our orphanage. And not to forget our friends Edna and Brian
for their encouragement, their efforts and endless support.
Thanks to all our visitors who have been in the orphanage or
planning to visit.... ASANTE SANA
We
have two ' new' children in the home. Lucy is 3 years and an
aids orphan. She lived with her grandmother in Mtwapa. The
grandmother however could not take good care about her. And
Lucy needs special care due to her status. Our home care
volunteers asked our help to take a look at Lucy's
situation. We decided to take her in with her grandmothers
permission. She was taken to our orphanage and felt so
comfortable that she started to avoid me... she didn't want
to be carried by me and hide herself when I came to visit.
Probably scared that I will take her away again...She didn't
trust me for a long time and slowly starts to come to me
when Iam around... She is a happy beautiful child who loves
to be dressed like a little lady.
Vincent
is 8 years. I got a call from the police in Mtwapa ( special
children's department) that our help was needed. Vincent's
mother died some time ago. He was left in the care of his
aunt. The father demanded the boy back and created problems.
He neglected Vincent and abused him. After several warnings
of the police the boy was taken away from the father.
Vincent begged the police not to leave him behind with his
father... So we took Vincent in. The first day he was really
wondering where he was. Confused and a bit scared. But the
following day he started to give out beautiful smiles... He
was impressed by everything he saw in the house, the beds,
the van, the food.... Vincent is now a very happy boy. He
will soon attend school.
We now have
17 children in our orphanage and with the 2 of Mama Jane
there are 19 children. There are 8 aids orphans in the
house. Kipu, Gregory, Moses, Lucy, David, Jamal, Vincent,
and Dickson. They follow an aids program in the hospital.
Some medicines are free others we have to pay. The
conditions of these children are ok. They do eat well and
are all active without serious complains of sickness. It is
our goal to give these children a normal life without
knowing them they are infected. We do protect our selves and
the volunteers by providing latex hand gloves incase of open
wounds. We cover wounds with plasters and make sure the
other children don't touch the wounds.
If you want
to know more about us or if you want to sent us a donation
