The
project is an orphans home where orphans are well taken care
of. We have orphans, abandoned children, aids children and
abused children in the age of 2 years till 17 years.
Kipu is the one who is the longest time
with us. At this moment we have 19
children in the home. We lived in Nairobi and Thika before
but moved to Mombasa in March 2005. The reasons are: the
nice climate, the healthy air near the sea, better and more
options for excursions for both children and volunteers. We
are renting a big home near Mombasa in North Mtwapa with 6
rooms accommodating the children, staff and volunteers. For
the volunteers we have 2 rooms available. It is our
intention to buy a plot in 2007 and to built a home which
can accommodate approx. 50 children. Our home is growing
fast. Known now with the child officer in Mombasa we have
welcomed within short time 3 more children in the last few
weeks. Our last brought child is Vincent brought by the
police. Vincent is HIV infected. We are not specialized in HIV children
but certainly don't refuse them. We have learned about the
most important issues in caring, food, medicines and the aids
infected children are following a program in the hospital.
They are getting medicines, some provided free some we must
pay.
We are aware that these children might now stay with us for
many years, we don't know, only God knows. But we will give
them all the love we have and offer them a good life as long
as they are with us. We are no professionals but we all have
a warm heart for children. We share as a team the joy of the
children, the award of the smiles, and we support each other
when we have tears because of the sick children. We believe
that one day Lioness Cubs home is big home for many children
where many children are playing, learning and getting
prepared to make their own life's when they grow up.
Update
October 2007:
At
this moment we have 19 children living in the house. However
two children are from the staff member Jane. We are located
next to Dancourt. Here we host the children with one staff
member the other two staff members report in the morning and
leave the house at 18.00 pm. We intent to start building by
the beginning of 2008. It is our aim to help as much
children as we can. Children who are abandoned, abused by
parents of relatives, raped and aids orphans. It is our wish
to educate these children within our own school to be built
later where respect for each other is most important. For us
it is most important that these children are happy, feeling
welcome, find love and attention in the home and don't need
to fear anything. We want to give the aids orphans all they
need to secure a quality life, the raped children to regain
their dignity and to heal from their visible and non visible
wounds. The abused children to trust people again.
We do
cooperate with child officers, police and health officers to
secure a healthy and safe environment for the children. We
will get advice from professionals for the construction of
the new orphanage in Kikambala. We plan to built a clinic as
well to serve the community in Kikambala where women can
deliver in a harmonious and peaceful room with the help of
professional midwives. We truthfully believe that working
together with the community will benefit both parties. We do
welcome visitors to visit the orphanage to meet the children
and staff. If you want to meet Irene and William as well
please inform us in advance as we have a tight schedule
sometimes. Karibu sana and asante.
