Activities

During holidays and on days off it is a pleasure to take the children to the beach. There is the public beach near Pirates and you can take them to the tourist beach which is just an extention of the public beach. In the weekends hundreds of people are enjoying the music, sun and sand at this beach.

Children can be taken for a camelride, a boat trip, and swimming. From Mtwapa take the matatu to Pirates and drop off here to enter the public beach! You can hire a boat for a very reasonable price as they know you are from an orphans home.

We have been taking the children already two times on safari. In Nairobi we took the older children to the Masai Mara for a 3 days trip. We all enjoyed it very much. Sleeping at the campsite was an adventure for all of us.

In September we took the children and all the volunteers and staff members on safari to Tsavo. Most of the children have not been to the park yet so it was a very big pleasure to them and for us to see them enjoying. Savannah and Beatrice were calling all the big animals Cows and the small ones goat.. We slept all in the Red Elephant lodge in Tsavo East. A beautiful lodge owned by Felix of Germany. I got the Savannah Bushhouse for the night and asked Lieke to sleep also in my room. The children, staff and volunteers were staying in the standard rooms. Lieke ( a great volunteer ! )  and me stayed outside for a long time trying to enjoy the silence and the view over the Savannah. But the askari ( guard ) didnt share our thoughs and kept us busy with talking. So we decided to go to sleep. I told the askari not to wake me up after I he said that lions and elephans could pass... so when I heard the lions roaring in the early morning at 05.00 am I run to the door. To find the askari who told me to be to late cause there were 4 lions in front of my room. But I had told him not to wake me up.. oeps...

We had great meals in the lodge and enjoyed the  safari very much. We didnt see many animals but still we had a very good time.

Out next trip will be a dhow trip with the Pilli Pipa. This is a day trip at the Indian Ocean with snorkling and watching the dolphins. Then lunch at the beautiful Island where owner Harm and his wife Selina are living. Lunch with excellent seafood or if you dont like seafood fried chicken !Very kind people offering their clients a warm hospitality and personal attention! You should definetly give this trip a try !
